R & L's Romantic Winter Wedding
A crisp January weekend in the Cambridgeshire countryside saw the perfect backdrop for R & L’s wedding. Nestled just minutes away from R’s family home, the couple chose to use a family field for the celebrations, with a large marquee for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast. The ceremony itself was held in a beautiful local church, which we filled with foliage and candles.
With the couple living in New Zealand, we worked with them remotely to plan the day and arrange the catering, styling, floristry and prop hire. The couple managed to coincide a trip home with their tasting but the majority of the preparation was conducted over the phone, on Skype, or by email.
R wanted their special day to feel particularly wintery and romantic. She liked the idea of lots of foliage and candles, and also wanted to include splashes of purple throughout the day. We filled the church with arrangements that lined the windows and porch as to greet guests as they arrived, and also interspersed candles in pillar vases throughout. We including a large, full entrance arch for guests to enter through, which also created the perfect backdrop for photos outside the church.
Inside the church, alongside the window arrangements, we also lined the aisle with foliage and florals. Whilst at the alter there were two asymmetrical foliage and floral arrangements that framed the ceremony. The wild floral arrangements were then moved after the ceremony and used as a impressive backdrop for photos.
When designing the tables, R & L opted for grey linen coupled with silver cutlery and a trio of dinner candles in glass stands that create a romantic and elegant feel. These worked beautifully alongside the large floral centrepieces. The couple provided homemade flavoured vodka and gin for the tables, personalised with the couples names. R & L also made the wonderfully heartfelt gesture to write personalised letters to all of the guests on their place setting.
As guests arrived, they were greeted with boozy hot chocolates to warm them up after the walk from the church. The drinks reception was held in an separate area of the marquee to the wedding breakfast, and was filled with drinks and canapes for guests to enjoy.
R & L choose a bespoke menu including a Moroccan inspired sharing main complete with tagine, cous-cous and flatbreads. For dessert they opted for build your own ice cream sundaes, where guests could pick their own toppings and sauces, all of which were served in vintage style glass bon bon dishes.
